The Laura – Rebecca Page Patterns

Logo-Rebecca-Page

Many of you know that I recently became a brand ambassador for Rebecca-Page Patterns…What does that mean?  It means I get first glance at the new patterns coming out about 2 months before you do…I get to pick one pattern (or more!) and make it…send them some pics…and get a free pattern for my time and efforts.  It’s that simple.

I’m a new ambassador and just recently finished “The Laura”.  As you know this year, is the year for me…so I’m making things for me.  You all saw my first tank top that I made with gorgeous Cotton & Steel fabric.  Now…you will get to see this one!

I choose a gorgeous and super soft knit in dark navy blue with a sweet floral border print in the best Spring colors!

I love it!  I found the fabric at a quilt/fabric store in Huntsville, Texas called The Fabric Carousel.  I met the owner, on accident…and she’s lovely.  She carries a lot of quilting cottons, but in the back she has a few rows of knits and fashion fabrics.  Speaking to her she told me that the store use to be all fashion fabrics but the pull towards quilting got them to add more to their store.  It’s a great shop, right in downtown Huntsville on the square around the courthouse.

I may have shared pictures of this particular fabric on my Instagram page.  It’s gorgeous and super soft!  Afterall, I’m making myself a top so I want it soft and comfy but looking like a million bucks!

What did I select to make with this gorgeous fabric?  THIS!

I found myself with the perfect fabric and the perfect pattern.  You all know I want a super easy pattern to read at a beginner level.  Well, this is definitely the pattern!  The top is a “hi-lo”, meaning it is longer in the back than the front of the top.  I choose to make the top version because I chase a two year old and a dress isn’t something I would normally wear.  However, after making it — I will make the dress version for date night!

This was a super fast sew!  Seriously…I started cutting it out around 2:30 pm and by 6:30 PM – I was texting my neighbor to come take some pictures!  No lie!  I couldn’t believe it myself.  I will be making more of these!

TIP#1 – It’s on sale right now!  The pattern is on sale for $11.20!  That makes it 21% off from the regular price of $14.00.  Go to this website ( Rebecca Page Patterns ) and get it now!  You will not regret buying this pattern.  You can make the top and the dress version for one price!

TIP#2 – I did use my mom’s serger to finish the seams and I believe that sped up my time.  If you have a serger or would like to learn how to use a serger – This is the PERFECT garment to make for the first time or for the millionth time!

TIP# 3 – I did not bind – I used facing for the neckline.  This was super fast!  I hate binding a quilt, so I don’t see myself binding a top.

I believe that this top is an awesome sew!  If you are interested in making a top, that the pattern even offers a longer version for a dress – THIS IS THE ONE FOR YOU!  It will NOT disappoint you!

I have to make another!

So now I’m on the search for the next fabric to make this top again!

If you think this top is amazing – wait until next month!  I just signed up for the pattern and I’m stoked about it.  Let’s just say it’s “dressy”….

This is a BRAND NEW – JUST RELEASED – PATTERN!

Even Duke likes it…

Happy quilting! (& sewing!)

Hi! Can I ask you what type of fabric did you use? A soft cotton but was it stretchy? I made my Laura with a plisse fabric (never again, very pretty but never again) and the size is like 2 sizes up and ruined 😭. Any tips? Can this be made without a knit fabric?

      Hi Alejandra!

I made this same top twice now out of knit fabrics. The knits I used did have some stretch to them. I do have some friends who made it from a quilting cotton fabric and it gave it more structure and laid differently on the body – much like the way the longer dress version of the Laura lays on the pattern cover model. It can absolutely be made with cotton fabrics. I would love to make it again in a lawn fabric! OH HOW SOFT THAT WOULD BE!

Please let me know if I can help! Feel free to email me – Sarah@SewMuchCharm.com !
