2020 QuiltCon in Austin

I was a bit quiet last week due to the fact that I was planning and organizing my life to attend Quiltcon 2020 in Austin, Texas.  Coming back caused some time needed for adjustment too.  Ever take a new three year old to Quiltcon?  I did.  I live life on the edge that way.  I will also never do that again.

Although- I may rethink that - the giveaways were amazing and the vendors would see Bailey and come up and GIVE HER FABRIC!  There was so many freebies - it was crazy good.

QuiltCon 2020 was held in Austin, Texas at the Austin Convention Center.  Think of it as the Modern Quilt Guild's version of their own Quilt Festival.  It was comparable to the Houston International Quilt Festival - just a tad smaller and all modern!  I saw all the BIG NAMES in quilting there: Bernina, Singer, Innova...just to name a few.  Every big name in fabric was there.  Patterns galore.  The new latest and greatest notions were there too!

Saying "It was amazing!" - is an understatement.  I really love that the quilts were treated like true pieces of art and were adored by guests of all ages.  Every single person I saw admired the quilts...I never heard an ugly word from anyone and that's wonderful.  Art speaks to so many people and these quilts were true pieces of art.

There were quilts that were simply inspiring!  The creativity there was wonderful...I can't say enough about how many inspired me and encouraged me to quilt outside of my comfort zone.  New goal: enter a quilt at QuiltCon!  Maybe I can make my row by row a bit "modern" and enter it next year?  Would you do that with this year's row by row project?

As if the quilt show wasn't great enough, the vendors were amazing too!  I found some great goodies there in Austin.  I wanted to share them with you.  I didn't need an extra suitcase to return home with all of my goodies - but I found a few things that when I immediately saw it - I knew I had to have it.

One of my favorite things was the variety of Aboriginal fabric from Australia.  It was great.  I found a booth called Fabrilish and they had the largest assortment of Aboriginal fabrics.

Another great find was Pineapple Fabrics.  Bailey loved this booth quite a bit.  One of the vendors inside this booth actually gave Bailey a whole yard of fabric!  And she immediately took it and handed it to me.  (Awww proud mom moment).

I also found the C&T Publishing booth to be amazing.  The books they had available were selling faster than hotcakes!  I picked up a few books and went back the next day and bought more!

These will definitely help me as great resources for quilting and sewing and everything in between!

Last but not least - was definitely finding the artist Kathleen McElwaine - the creator of Quilt Block Art.  She didn't have a booth herself, but was there with a shop that carries her artwork.  They carried a ton of it.  This shop also has a great selection online: Sew Crazy Austin Fabric Boutique.

And in case you are wondering - MORE WONDERFUL ITEMS will be added to the giveaway this week!  So be sure to check out the post from February 14th for the details and enter to win.  There will be 2 winners for this giveaway!

I have already marked February 18-21, 2021 in Atlanta on my schedule for the next Quiltcon!  It was so amazing...I hope to see you all there.

I'm going to share a new quilt image from QuiltCon on my Instagram - so be sure to follow me there! @sewmuchcharm

In the mean time, enjoy the slideshow of some of quilts I saw in Austin.  Tell me which was your favorite quilt in the comments below.  I'd love to hear!

Bailey, my daughter, loved the planet quilt the most. She screamed with excitement when she saw it.

Hi! Thanks for reading and following the blog! Be sure to sign up for the newsletter for a great coupon code for the Shop Page.

I appreciate your question and I do have a lot of spam comments but they are blocked by Jetpack. It’s a plug-in I use and I just check them every other day. If an email address looks suspicious, it blocks it. I only have to check a few of them every other day.
