Being Prepared…& a Quilter

Time management is a trick for all of us, no matter what your age.  Some of us are more talented than others at it.  I always feel like I’m treading water.

However, with the current Corona Virus going around, I finally feel like maybe time management is coming together for me.  You may not know this about me, but my blog use to be called My Charmed Cabin Life and I wrote about many topics in my life: emergency preparedness is one of them.

I can only imagine how hard it is for families who were not prepared for an emergency such as this.  For those, I pray that they have what their family needs to get through this ordeal.

As a quilter, I have learned to multi-task beyond compare as many others have too.  I can work on several different projects at all times.  And I do.  I have used quilting as a means of saving my sanity during crazy unprecedented times in my life.

Quilting has helped me stay focused and gives my brain a break from the pressures of the world.

As I scroll through Facebook, I see several articles that say crochet and knitting have helped reduced stress levels during times of high anxiety.

Well, any hobby you enjoy can do that!  And it could be QUILTING!  It could be just going through your fabric stash, sitting at the table with your machine, and anything else that gives your brain a break and a chance for you to reset or recharge.

Here are a few suggestions that you can do as a quilter during these trying times with the virus.

  1. Support your local quilt shop.  Many shops are having to close their doors during these times.  I’m not saying you have to make a huge purchase- but just commenting every day on their page and sharing their posts will help them more than you know.  Please consider doing that!  Make an order too if you can.  If there is nothing you need at the current time – consider purchasing a gift card and you can use it later or send to a friend!
  2. Pick a UFO to finish!  I’ll say it.  Let’s finish something by the end of the month.  Take pictures and share with your sewing/quilting friends online to encourage them.  They are being bombarded with CORONA this and that all day long.  Help change their scenery for them.  You have no idea how wonderful that could be for them.  Share your pictures to your personal Facebook page and to the sewing/quilting groups you participate in.
  3. Have a Challenge.  Pick a friend or a few friends and challenge each other.  If you are into sewing, make it a sewing pattern challenge.  Set a deadline.  The loser has to give up 10 fat quarters from their stash and a bottle of the winner’s favorite wine.  Well, you get the idea.
  4. Join The Great SIT IN N’ Sew by Pattern Poole!  This is an entire mystery quilt organized on Facebook.  You get a new block every week for 10 weeks.  We currently are on block 5 – but people are still joining and this group will remain active for quite a while!  This mystery quilt is just $65 to join and you can join through Sew Much Charm!  Sign up for our newsletter and use your discount code!

Just these 4 ideas could help you find some sanity and give you peace of mind during this time.  We are in this together and let’s take the time to breathe and support each other.  #stayhomeandquilt

If you need to add to your stash for a great project – don’t forget about the Sew Much Charm Shop!  We have two HUGE fabric orders on their way to the Shop!  Be sure to follow our Facebook Page and get notified for the LIVE box openings where you can claim the fabrics first!

Happy Quilting!

Stay safe….stay healthy!
